Thoughts on '85 CJ-5 258 ...

Engine and exhaust are bone stock, nothing has been screwed with. No power steering. No power brakes.

Goal: Ditch smog pump, new exhaust (no cats). Install power brakes and power steering. I have all power steering donor parts from another '80 CJ5.

No need to argue about fuel emission laws, they have zero merit in this application. I will retain the charcoal canister + fuel lines.

Any input is appreciated.

For brakes, many go with dual diaphragm YJ with a bracket. Sometimes it requires the 'other' air filter housing.I would thoroughly recommend going hydroboost brakes; mustang hydroboost, parts mike adapter, hoses and stop on a dime with 35's.... very very effective. Home brewed or Vanco.

There are many upgrades, but I think this is my fave.
