Are you sure it's top heavy and it's not incorrect steering geometry you said it started acting up after you lifted the jeep and put the cage on

Shackle lifts aren't the best way to lift a vehicle and often screw up your steering

I will throw this out to you... going from NT axles to full-width is going to be a HUGE difference in appearance. So before you go through the expense of the swap, check out LOTS of full-width CJ pics. Some look great. Other look like... well, not so great! Make sure all your bushings are in good shape too. That will affect how it feels on the road.
This is good advice. Switching to wide tracks shouldn't be hard at all and just be labor intense. Going full width you need to out board the front and then the added cost of driveshafts. What I used to have was WT with 10" wide rims with a 2.5" backspacing and it was almost full width stance at that. Now that I'm full width I gained an extra 4" width compared to previous setup. In one pic is how it is now, the other is with the WT and small back spacing rims.

Honestly, I don't understand the purpose of putting full width axles on a CJ.

Isn't a CJ known for it's relatively narrow wheelbase that allows them to navigate terrain that full-size rigs can't? It seems to me full width axles defeat that purpose. Not to mention that many states won't allow your tires to stick beyond the wheel wells that far.

I understand wanting more cornering stability, but if that's your priority then you bought the wrong rig to begin with. Obviously, it's your CJ and you should do what you want to it. I'm just trying to get my head around why you would want to.

AFAIK: Waggy axle are not "full width". They are roughly the same as WT axles.

"Full Width" to me means 3/4 or 1 ton axles from a truck which are much wider and I personally don't like them. You could never get away with running them around here without getting pulled over by the police every couple of blocks.

Either swap in some WT (direct bolt in) or Waggy (quite a bit of work) axles and enjoy much better stability by the added track width.

BTW: a local guy has a kit for sale on another forum that I frequent for $150.

I like the idea of Waggy axles because they aren't Full width but they are appreciably wider than Narrow tracks.
I think that narrow track are great if you want to find a way around an obstacle and a wider is better for going over the obstacle.
it can help reduce off camber angle, the same way that a longer wheel base will reduce incline. the reduction of angle assumes that one end is on level ground and not the angle. once both tires are on the obstacle the angles are the same.
Just my take on it.
Now consider the guys running samurais.....

A waggy front is not the same width as a CJ WT axle. Waggy front is roughly 61" inches WMS to WMS. CJ Dana 30 front WT axle is 56" inches WMS to WMS.

Like I mentioned before to the OP unless you plan to rock crawl and go bigger than 35 inch tires (which has not been mentioned) Waggy axles are not needed. Certainly doing it for corning ability would not be a reason to switch to Waggy axles.
