Thanks Jeephammer! Teamrush once again.

The title says it all. I have an open "thank you" to Jeephammer. Just fired my Jeep up for the first time after this relatively cheap upgrade. Wow, what a difference. Maybe I had other underlying problems with my '80 model CJ5
258, because the difference is noticeable big time.

What I did:
Went to Pull A Part and got an E-coil, wiring connector, and mount off an 80s model Ford something for $5.00. I did have to educate the seller its an ignition coil. I then picked up a premium cap, button, and wires for an 82 Ford F150 at Autozone. My junkyard E-coil had the condenser which I installed on the Jeep too. I noticed some do not have it. After modifying the E-coil mount, I installed it right where the factory coil was.

Quick note about the E-coils: I looked a 3 of these coils before finding one without a damaged high voltage wire connector. Check it out good on used stuff.

Thanks again JH.

I did the same upgrade TeamRush and used Ford E Coils, PLUS: added grounds to head and Ground Input to the DuraSpark Ignition Modual (black wire). I got similar results WOW!!!

Estimate it added 15% to the mileage and pep of a newly rebuilt 258 with all new parts.

I also posted a thank you to JeepHammer for the same reason,

Thanks again,
Fred

Everone should do this upgrade.

Getting 20.5 Hwy MPG with the TeamRush, Ford E Coil, and added grounds to the Head & INput Ground of DuraSpark Ignition. Thats pretty good. Prior to the TeamRush was getting 17/18 mpg with all new parts installed.

Installed a Summit MultiSpark Discharge Ignition that bumped the MPG up to 25/26 mpg. I used the digital version with the rev limiter. I have since opened up the run jet on the weber 34 a bit and expect to be in the 23/24 mpg range. Pulls pretty strong from 1000 to 4000 rpms.

Just put the CJ away till next spring.

Fred
