TH400 to Dana 300 w/o $500.00?

$459.00 For a Novak TH400 to Dana 300 T/C adapter... that is insane!!

Is there anything cheaper out there that I just can't seem to find? I would think maybe $100.00 would be "expensive" but probably closer to what I expected it to cost, not $460.00 dollars!

Not sure if there's any factory type adapters that can be made to work. Normally, with adapters.. if you want to play........

I just don't want to spend more for the adapter than I'm getting my project Jeep for, lol...

Found something about a NP208 on a TH400 that can be used as an adapter for the Dana 300... anyone know the specifics?

Quote:
And FYI - You can use the NP 208 adapter for the 350 and 700R4 and mate it to the D300. $50 for an adapter vs $500. You have to buy a different tranny output shaft anywhere from $100 and $175 - Still save about $350 on the crossover.
bdmonist Can you explain this output shaft, which one I'd need?

EDIT: It looks like since my Chevy has the all time 4wd NP208 transfer case all I really need to know is information on this output shaft, lol... thx!

the np 208 is not a full time case.its a part time chain driven aluminum case.not sure what year your chevy is but if its a full time case its likely a cast iron 203.

Whatever it is... it has 4wd limited slip and 4wd full engaged so I guess that is part time? Either way it is NEVER in 2wd only you know?

I have been researching this, but yet to do the mod. I talked with jb conversions and they sell a 700R4 output shaft that will mate up with the D300 using a NP208 adapter. I purchased the NP 208 adapter for $50 on ebay. The shaft is about $150 - 175 if I recall correctly. I think I will have to do some slight mod on the NP 208 adapter, but I think it will be straight forward. One of the holes won't quite line up, so you can either just go with 3 instead of 4 holes, or mod the NP 208 to make the 4th fit. I think I will mod the 208 to where all 4 hole will mate up. $200 vs $500 will definietly make me try it.

I'll keep you posted as I get more info, but I will definitely be doing this.

Yep, seems like he uses the NP208 adapter as well... and just uses a 700R4 output shaft... looks like we had the correct information!

The only discrepancy I got from JB from what that thread states is him having to cut down his output shaft. JB stated that the output shaft they have is made for this swap and will fit straight from the 700R4 to the D300 with the NP 208 adapter.
