TF999 and Flex Plate

I need to replace my flex plate because it does not track straight and the starter grinds on it. Anyone with an auto.... do you think it is possible to unbolt the trans and slide it back a few inches with a trans jack to remove and replace the felx plate? If I mark the alignment of the FP and torque converter and do not remove the converter then I should not have to worry about alignment of the pump, correct? As long as the new plex plate goes back in the same orientation?

If there's room to remove it that will work.

You don't need to remove the convertor to get the flex plate off (if there's room), so I'm not sure why you're concerned about alignment of the pump.

Remove the flexplate/convertor attachment bolts, slide the transmission back far enough to remove the flexplate and do the reverse to finish it up.

yeah, I guess I don't understand the issue exactly. I thought it had to do with bolting the torque converter to the flex plate. Just trying to save myself some grief. So if I follow, as long as I leave the converter in the trany I should be ok?

There is a cool trick with some all thread after you remove the tranny bolts. Put the all thread into the block and slide the tranny back. It keeps it inline so you can just slide it back and bolt it up. Keeps you from having to deal with alignment issues getting the bolt holes lined up.

as long as you match the orientation of the bolt pat on the engine and don't spin the crank or pump or at least return to starting position you should be fine

use grease crayon or shail to mark you stuff and i wouldn't see an issue
