Tech4 swap

Has anyone replaced the regular iron Duke(81) with a tech4 Iron Duke? Looks like an easy swap to me.

First thing that comes to mind ........ different bell housing pattern. Jeep 151 = SBC V8 pattern, Tech 4 151 = BOP / Metric / 60 deg pattern.

Probably the biggest advantage is the fuel injection, but don't think there's a real gain in Torque or HP.

Good Luck

Thanks 2L8. Do you know if the bell housing off the older 151 will fit the Tech4? HP goes from 82 to 98. Not sure about torque.

Camaro bell housing that used the 3800 engine with a T5 will accept the SR4/T4/T5 transmissions and bolt up to the later 4 cylinder engines.

Thanks partsmke. The tech4 is in an 87 s10 right now so it's inline. I'll find out if they stayed with the 60deg. housing even though it's not FWD once I get it out where I can see it. I'm thinking this is doable without a lot modification. Thanks for the info. Good stuff to know.

The Tech 4 has the same bell housing configuration as the 2.8 V6 which is the small pattern like the 3800 I mentioned.

The bell housing from an AMC 2.5L (BOP-60) should work on the Tech 4. Came with 84 to 86 CJ's. But I don't have first hand experience with that.

Good Luck

Put a cam and header on your 151. Different carb on a tech 4? Get a Weber. I put a cam in my 151 and it became a whole new Jeep. Pulled smooth to 5K+. Finally threw a rod. Get a 258 if you really want more power. Then put a cam and header on it!

So the original Bellhousing is with it. Does anyone know if this will bolt up to my SR4 trans. It had a four speed( 2WD) behind it originally when it was in the S10.

Check the bolt pattern for the transmission, GM used a different pattern than Jeep and Ford.
