Team Rush upgrade.. no spark
I have completed the TeamRush with all MSD and other components.. No fire, so I checked and there is no fire from the plugs, so i checked coil and while engine is turing over, its only showing like .007 volts. The Power wire to ignition box is grounded and getting full power. I tried to check and not getting any volt reading on the Green/Purple, and I am not getting any power to the wires leading the the Coil, the Orange/Black... could my MSD6200 box be bad?? is there a way to tell.. Here are some pics of the set-up..

Running On Empty...

OK,...
![]() 1. See the Distributor Trigger Wires? You extended them, and that is fine, but you need to TWIST the pair around each other. This will help keep out stray signals that shouldn't be there. Running these along the engine block, make sure you keep them away from the spark plug wires, and even running them through a metal tube over to the module isn't a bad idea. Anything to shield them from ElectroMagnetic signal that is EVERYWHERE under the hood... ------------------------------------------ ![]() 2. Running the MSD LARGE RED to the starter relay battery terminal side is a Correct way to wire it. I DO NOT see where the MSD LARGE BLACK wire goes, but it should go to the battery it's self, or a large gauge ground, like a grounding stud. 3. I DO NOT see where the 'MSD SMALL RED wire hooks up to the ignition switch circuit. Without this 'Small Red' wire hooked up to power, the module will not 'Turn On' even though it has power. You can hook it to the former factory coil wire postive connection to power up the MSD module, OR, If you still have the factory harness in place, this gadget is a zoomy way to hook up directly to the ignition switch power feed, http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM%2D850520&autoview=sku ![]() The 'Bell Shaped' part on the right of the picture with the Red & White wires is all you are going to use, and it connects to the Old Module two wire Power Supply terminal on the factory harness. This gadget plugs directly into that harness two wire terminal, and you crimp the 'MSD SMALL RED' into the other side of the connector.... DONE! ----------------------------------------- If you DO NOT have the 'Small Red' wire connected to anything, connect it directly to the battery positive, then try and start the engine, But remember to take it off the battery and properly connect it to the harness somewhere or it will run your battery down! ------------------------ Otherwise, I can't see much you did wrong, and I like that coil bracket! Remember to spray down that cap, plug wires, coil, ect with silicone spray before you get it muddy, or the mud is MURDER to get off those plug wires when You go to clean it! --------------------------- To test your MSD module/coil... Pull the coil wire off the distributor cap, Put a 'Test Plug' in the distributor end of the coil wire... test plug can be just an old spark plug with a ground wire attached to the threads and grounded to the battery terminal... Connect the 'Small Red' to 12 volt power, this powers up the module. Then tap the 'White' wire on an electrical ground... You should see sparks every time you break contact with the ground... If it DOES spark when you 'tap' the white wire on a ground, then the module/coil are both working, and you have a trigger problem. If it DOES NOT spark when you 'Tap' the White wire on a ground, then you have module/coil problem, or power supply to the module problem. --------------------------------- As you get a chance, remove those 'Crimp Connectors' with the insulation on them, and replace with good connectors, then solder them down and use Heat Shrink Tubing as insulation as you go. It's not a big deal now, but those dinky crimp connectors hold moisture and rot out pretty easily, so a good solid soldered joint with heat shrink tubing in place will last for the next 30+ years!

3. I DO NOT see where the 'MSD SMALL RED wire hooks up to the ignition switch circuit.
Without this 'Small Red' wire hooked up to power, the module will not 'Turn On' even though it has power. Thats my problem, I taped off both the smallred and smallwhite thinking they were both to anti-theft .. Where exactly should I place the SmallRed too?? The I on the solenoid??Thanks a million!! ![]()

Small Red is the 'Activation' wire, it's what turns the module 'On' when you turn the key swtich on.
There should be TWO connections to that small red, and the gadget I showed you in the picture will give you both connections... Otherwise, you are going to need to do some fancy wiring... You will need to wire that small red to the OLD COIL SMALL POSTIVE WIRE for ignitions switch 'Run' position... And you are going to need to add a wire from the Starter Relay 'I' terminal to the small red wire. If the engine decides to 'Run On' after you connect the 'Small Red' to the old coil wire, then you will need to put a Diode in the alternator circuit. Easier than it sounds... Anyway, try 'Testing' by connecting the small Red to the battery postive, and cranking the engine, but be sure to take the small red off the battery when the test is over so the engine shuts off!

So the small red wire just connects to the old coil positive wire? Or does it run to that wire and then run back to the solenoid?

Also will the factory tach still work if I hook up my module the same way that you have?

The 'Coil Positive' or coil connector 'Red' wire is actually powered up by the Ignition switch. You CAN tap the ignition circuit by connecting to the Starter Relay 'I' terminal that has the 'Red' wire connected to it, BUT, You may experience 'Run On' after you turn the key off. If so, you will have to install a diode in the alternator circuit. If you use the Summit adapter shown above for the power wire, the diode is already installed. No. Factory Tach will take a tach adapter to work correctly.

Always great info, thanks. I would like to do the MSD conversion but cannot figure out which tach adaptor I need for the 258 factory tach. I tried the search and only find mention of it in general, no specific item number. Do you have this info handy? Thanks!
