Taking off the dash - CJ7 1986

So my CJ7 Manual is in the mail but I still cant wait.

I tried to take of my dash to mess around with my gagues and sound system.

Problem is the ****ing steering collum is too big to fit around. I see there is this bar on the side of the steering collum that i can push down and thinking that might take it off so i can take off my dash but i dont know.

Anything can help.

Thanks

I don't get that either? But yout you have to take the whole steering column out to get the dash off. its a fairly simple job.

Sory i was in a rush when writing that. i want to take out my whole dash t get at back. the whole in the dash for the steering collum seems too small to fit around the rest of the collum. like its just the collum when coming threw the dash but once it is outside of the dash "hole" then it gets wider so if i try to pull out the dash it hits on the collum. if i take off the steering wheel and signal bar then will it fit? when looking at it it did not seem like that.

yes it will fit, i did an upgrade on my 85 cj7 today, with new gauges and new wiring, took around 8 hrs total time including 1hr lunch brake! lol
(stainless steel dash) looks great by the way!

all my gagues are hella messed up. the main one (tach, fuel, milege etc) just bounces around when i drive. do you think its a bum gague? my signals still turn on when i turn them on. the other 2 smaller ones on the side of the main gague just stand still. dont bounce around when i drive.

how much do you think a mechanicwould charge for a wiring overhawl.

Yes, remove the column bezel on the dash, remove the steering wheel and and shifter or signal levers and it'll fit right over.

I think your talking about speedometer Right?
This "gauge":

If the Speedometer needle is jumping around it could be the cable to the t-case causing you problems.
