T4 to TH400 swap questions

i might be able to get access to a TH400 for a Jeep engine. ofcourse i will have to get the adapter for my Dana 20 to adapt to the tranny. my only issues are the lengths. with the T4 my T case shifter is a little back had to get tub notched for shifter. the TH 400 is i think 10 inches longer according to novak. has anyone done this swap? ive been searching here and everywhere i can. for info before i jump in. thanks for your time.

Are you sure that you have a T4? It wouldn't have been stock on a '78 and a Dana 20 will not bolt up to one.

So then the tcase is probably a Dana 300, not a Dana 20. The easiest way to tell the difference is to look at the housing of the rear output shaft. On the Dana 300 it's aluminum. The D20 has a nodular steel rear output housing and a magnet will stick to it.
