t-90 lever mystery

Hello all, On my 66' cj there is a lever which extends out from the tranny, which moves back and forth. The PO mentioned this was used as some type of ebrake?? I don't the purpose of this lever? Thanks for any thoughts.

If it's not the tranny shifter and it's not the transfer case shifter, then it's very likely and overdrive shifter. Look underneath and see if there's and extra aluminum housing back of the transfer case. Better yet, send a picture.

Yes it would be a parking brake. There is a drum mounted to the rear of the dana 18 transfer case and a set of drum brake shoes inside. Should be a cable that runs from the lever to a locking pull handle under the dash.

As I remember, those model CJ's had a handle that you pulled on under the dash unless somebody changed it to a lever over by the transmission shifter (as I understand barlow's description).
