T 5 / tranny questions

I bought my first Jeep,a 1985 Renegade, I6 258,but with a noisy tranny. It clanks bad in every gear, but 4th. I've been told, bt several people, it probably has a chipped or broken gear on the counter shaft.
This Jeep is a replacement for my Harley. It's to be a summer ragtop/no top joy ride. And a get me to work in the winter ride. Not intended to go rock crawling or mud bogging.

Now the questions;
Is the T 5 really a bad tranny?
Are they as hard to find as they seem?
If I get this rebiult, what kind of costs am I looking at?
Is ther another tranny that will better serve me cheaper?

Thanks for the help!

Now the questions;
Is the T 5 really a bad tranny?
noy if your running under 31's and/or have the correct axle gears.
Are they as hard to find as they seem?
No, the are sold in Jeep catalogs and on the net all day long.
If I get this rebiult, what kind of costs am I looking at? Depends on what region of the country and if it has main parts that are broken or severely worn.
Is ther another tranny that will better serve me cheaper? Yes, not cheaper, but the Borg Warner World Class T-5 is many times stronger and is a bolt in. If cost/time is a concern, get a rebuilt unit and turn yours in as a core.
