Swapping BBD for MC2100...Any Suggestions?
Anyone know where or how to find an MC2100 (or 2150)? I want to swap out my Carter BBD on my 86 CJ7 for something simpler (since I'm not very good at adjusting it). I know there is a guy that sells them on ebay for around $300 but I've heard you can do it yourself for less and it's not that hard.
I've done some research and I think I need one with the 1.08 venturis and will need to get some sort of linkage and #47 jets and an adapter plate.
I've been looking out for a cheap one for a while now and can't seem to find anything. And the junkyards around here aren't very friendly. Thought I'd ask and see if anyone had any suggestions before I spend $300 from the guy on ebay. Thanks.

Junkyard is pretty mcuh the best option. Look in the early 80s model F150s, Cougars, E series vans, etc. Be sure to get the associate hoses, base plates when you pull it. I got mine for $20. 1.08 venturi is correct, although mine is a 1.21. Jets cost me $5 at a local shop. Rebuild kit cost me $30 from NAPA. The kit covers several models, so you will have extra parts. Very easy to rebuild. Make sure you have a comfortable area to work, clean, and well lighted. The most common error that I have seen is using the proper gasket at the carb base. You will need an adaptor plate... I used Mr. Gasket #1937. It was $22 at AZ. Once you get to that point post up your status. You will have to adapt your throttle cable, but it is pretty easy to do if you have any fab skills. It's a good carb. You will be happy with it.

LouisianaCJ7,
Before spending $300 on a reman'd MC2100, you should consider one of the Weber kits from Redline. They come correctly jetted for your 258, will have the adapters supplied, and will have a good warranty. The installation isn't difficult.
The MC2100 seems to be a popular choice because they can be found cheaply in junkyards. But, if your only option is buying from the eBay guy, then I'd consider a Weber for about the same money.
Just my opinion,
Matt

DONT buy from Michael Ehrmann off of Ebay. He'll sell you junk that was returned by someone else, ship it only wrapped in a couple pieces of newspaper, won't return calls, and is a liar in that he doesn't rebuild the carbs that he sells.
The carbs are great on the jeeps but stay away from him as he's a rip-off artist. You can read the feedback on his Ebay page and every complaint about him is exactly the same. When he lucks out and sells something that actually works right, he gets no complaints. But when you are that person who gets junk from him you'll never hear from him again!
I got my carb from him about 4 years ago and I can see from his recent feedback not much has changed.

You can find a 2100 or 2150 in a junkyard and rebuild it yourself for LESS than half of what that crook on eBay is selling them for. I got mine from a 79 Mustang II with a 302

The important thing is that those negative feedbacks are only over the last 12 months and he screwed me and others over 4 years ago, so that means he's still up to the same old thing and still getting the exact same complaints. The other interesting thing is that I left him negative feedback and a few weeks later it was gone! Somehow he was able to remove my negative feedback and others.
When it goes bad with him, it's really bad. I'm sure he gets it right once in awhile to have positive feedback but I wouldn't run the risk....

Thanks for the advice. I was about to order one from ebay, but I'll give the junkyards another shot. The hard part for me is knowing that I'm getting a complete one and also knowing that it's got the 1.08 bore size. Is there anything I can look for to know this? Also, if I find one with a manual choke, I can outfit it for an electric choke right? Thanks again guys for all the help.

The venturi is stamped right on the side of the carb so you can't go wrong. As for going from manual to electric, I don't know. I'd just be sure to get one with an electric choke and be done with it- they're all over the junkyards. I'm sure there are other reputable ebay sellers out there if you want to go that route, I just wouldn't buy from Ehrmann.

Not really. When I got my last one, I searched high and low at the bone yard(s). Most vehicles there did not have any kind of carbs because they scrap unpopular parts cars. The Yards that did have carbs had big tubs full of various carbs. Needle in the haystack type search. This was the norm at most yards. I finally found one at a discrepant (car sales/parts yard) small mom and pop place. My experience is that they are hard to find at a bone yard, today.
Here is what I did. I placed an ad on CraigsList, in the "Wanted" section. I had seen bone yards quoting $75.00, if they had it, to maybe $50.00. I got one from my CraigsList ad for $35.00, (but I did not inspect it well enough, had been previously hacked). I relisted my ad and now I am gonna get one for $25.00 and he is gonna give me all the others that he has.
I agree, don't buy from the EBay guy. He is buying up the market I hear to keep us from finding them. Maybe not, but he does a lot of buying. I commend him for being a good capitalist but we can be too, .

I got mine from hime and it is/was 100% perfect.
He was in contact with me within 15min of every email I sent, and even answered a few carb related questions when he knew a sale wasnt going to result.

Got mine from him as well. First one he sent was wrong size but he was easy to communicate with and quickly corrected the problem.
With that being said and knowing what I know now I would find a used one, rebuild it myself, buy the spacer from summit, and fab my own linkage.

Summit racing sells the MC2100 for $185.00.. Holley reman. 1.08 vent/ #47jets.
I just did it. The adapter is 12 bucks from Summit also.
Also you need the air cleaner. I whent with the KN unit for about $75.00
If you need parts! like jets and advise! call Daytona parts...they specialize in rebuilding carbs 1-386-427-7108.
When/ if you call Summit! give them the foloowing application- 1974 CJ5 with 304 V8.. you will get the 2100 with the 1.08

There is no need to fab/adapt a throttle cable. Just get a cable for a V8 powered CJ (there is only one) and hook it directly to the 2100. As a bonus, you get rid of almost 5lbs of stock throttle cable bracketry.
