Swapped Carter to a Weber 32/36 - Now What

I swapped out my old Carter 2BBl to a nice new Weber 32/36, thanks to all the advice from this forum.

My question is now that I have unplugged the the carburetor from the computer do I have to do some sort of bypass or can I just leave it as is? I was looking at the Nutter Bypass but my wires are not the same color as the ones in the posts.

I have Orange, Black and Brown coming from my distributor, no purple?

All your ECM controls now is the timing advance.

After I put the Weber on I just got an MSD 6T ignition module and never looked back. My ECM is completely out of the loop.

Did you need to bypass anything or just upgraded the ignition?

Once you upgrade the ignition with an HEI, there is nothing else to do. You can actually unplug the wires going to the ignition module in the engine compartment (driver side near firewall under charcoal canister) and remove the entire emissions harness and ECU to clean things up a bit. With the Weber and HEI, there is absolutely nothing the computer will be doing for you now.

Good luck. Easy to do and engine compartment will look real clean without the extra wires.

EDIT: I went with the DUI HEI and couldnt be happier. Easy, clean, and efficient.

I just upgraded the ignition... that bypassed it. I used the Team Rush upgrade with an MSD 6 ignition module.

The brown wire is likely just a dirty purple one....

You need to hook the orange and purple wires at the distributor to the orange and purple wires at the ignition module, reset the timing and away you go.

Agreed, there's no need for HEI unless you wanted to upgrade. When you wire your distributor directly to the ignition module with the ECU out of the loop like Mike says, the ECU doesn't do anything anymore and can be stripped out. It should take about 5 minutes to connect the 2 wires and pull out the ECU from under the dash.

My problem is that i=even if the brown is a dirty purple at the distributor, there is nothing that resembles a purple or brown at the ignition module??

On an 85, the stock ignition module is way down under the washer bottle on the fender and has 2 plugs on it, one has a red and white, the other has an orange, purple, green and brown.

What has someone put in yours?

Sure, below are some pictures. I also noticed that the computer behind the dash said FORD on it?? Is that correct? Also when I am cutting these wires for Nutter do I cut them on the ICM and distributor side of the plugs?

Yup, Ford computer.

That looks proper. The plug on the jeep harness side only has the orange green and black, the purple is only over on the module side of the plug, so it needs to be cut there and a new wire added. (computer supplies the purple to the distributor.) I just add two new wires and twist them together to replace the orange and purple wires without messing inside the harness.

You can't take out all the wires either or your reverse lights won't work...
