Suspension Lift

I am looking at getting a 83 CJ7 cheap. Downside is it has almost 10 inches of lift with 3 inches of body lift. What are all the parts I would need to lift a stock CJ7 4". I don't want a shop to screw me over with parts I don't need, but I don't want to jury rig anything. I have to bring this jeep down, but I don't want to get ripped off. Please HELP!!

Well, all you need to do is put in stock body mounts, and buy a 4" suspension lift kit, which should include 4 new springs, u-bolts, shocks, poly bushings, dropped pitman arm, and I would put stock height or 3/8" "overlength" heavy duty shackles, like ConFerr. I prefer Skyjacker for the lift kit, as it is very high quality and offers a smooth ride.

First of all get rid of the 3" body lift, that should bring you down to 7" if i understand you right. Next find out how it is lifted. to my knowledge there are no 7" lift kits made, it may be a combination of a 2 1/2" springs and a SOA conversion or something involving huge shackles. whatever the case, you should be able to remove a portion of the lift to get it down from the clouds. If you came to that 10" by measuring from the ground to the bumper and comparing it to a stock jeep then dont forget to take into account the larger tires.
Anyway it sounds like you may have everything you need for parts, just too much of it, exept for the correct length shocks.
If it is some huge homegrown set of stilts then you may be better off scrapping it and buying a kit. I have a sky jacker softride that came with shocks for around $400.-$500.that works nice and is easy to install.
just my .02 cents

If it has 3" body lift that means it has 7" of suspension lift. Sounds like it could be a spring over lift. Are the axles mounted underneath the springs?

I will post the pics tomorrow for everyone to take a shot at advice. I don't remember about the SOA, I haven't seen the Jeep in a while. We'll see. Thanks for all the advice.
