Super Stiff Clutch

1982 CJ5 Frame Up
Inline 6 rebuilt from machine shop
4-speed T176

Clutch is really stiff. Broke bracket end off bell housing where z-bar attaches.
Z-bar is perfectly parallel to the ground, but when viewed from above appears to be slightly off kilter from the brake pedal end to the bell housing attach point.

In other words, z-bar slants about 1/4" back as it goes towards the bell housing. Replaced bell (broken), z-bar and all moving clutch parts, clutch.

Not replaced: pedal assembly

Questions ???
Suggestions ???

Sounds like the bellcrank is on backwards and the clutch needs adjusting. Is the long arm of the bellcrank on the clutch end or the z-bar end? It should be on the Z-bar end.

Bell crank is on correctly, but rear side of z-bar rubs firewall pretty heavily when using the clutch.

FIXED. Thanks to your suggestions, I took the whole aseembly out and started from scratch. Bell crank did not have any grease, bell crank was on backwards, inserted plate to straighten out the slant, and now everything works great. Thanks for all of your help !!!
