Well I'm right at 100 miles on rebuild and she's running good. Just re-jetted carb today (.55) and reset timing. I wanna change the oil again for some reason. I first dumped it after 30 min break in and filled it back up with 10/30 and the Lucas break in mix. Is 100 miles too soon to switch to the 15/40 everyone recommends?

I did a 40 over rebuild on my 4.2l so at the moment you are making me jelous because I cant find the time to torque my rockers because I have been working too much. I started the motor rebuild when I wasnt busy and just as im finishing up, I get swamped. Glad to hear you are pretty much on the road.

I wouldn't switch to the 15/40 unless you wanted better oil pressure but this is a fresh motor and should be fine with 10/30 for a while. IMO the 15/40 is too thick on a fresh motor and is unneeded. I run 10/30 and a zddp additive to keep the cam wear down.

Had nothing to do last night and after a few beers came up with this, a support for fuel filter. Shawn and Matt got me thinking and this was the result. And before you say it, that's not a fuel filter on the return line. Its a "visual fuel return pressure gauge"...that just happens to filter lol.

I thought what the hell it can't hurt, and it's always cool to see what's going on. Hell I think the "clear" DUI distributor cover would be pretty cool too!

Great thread. I have also been reading your carb thread on this motor. A lot of good info in both. One question did you have a core charge on the Clearwater head or did you ship one in? Just wondering cause I have a 96 head I want to put 1.94 stainless and 1.50 Chevy valves into also and looking to see if would be cheaper to just get a Clearwater head. Thanks for sharing about telling Clearwater about the cam also will help prevent me and others from making same mistake.

Got the last piece of the puzzle installed today, she's officially 4WD again. I might even go to Bundy Hill this weekend!!

I been messing around trying different plugs lately. I originally had Cham CY9YC4 plugs as this is what the "Tom Wever" article called for. To my knowledge this is a 4.2 plug and one stage cooler. Today I installed the stock 4.0 plugs RC12LYC and picked up some pinging, I retarded the timing a bit and gonna put a few more miles on them.

Update: Jeep is running strong. Been having a blast this winter with all the snow and haven't babied her either. Even got a -11 degree cold start in or two. Been ripping up all the snow I can find, and even been hitting the highway a little. I'm running about 66 MPH @ 3K RPM. I feel I can run 3K, three or four times a year, for a few 3-5 hour trips. Not idea I know,.. but for the other 90% of the time I sure do like the gearing!
Paint is really bumming me out though. Chucks are just blowing right off at the car wash. Michigan just wont allow 30 year old paint to live here. The 5 winters my jeep has been in Michigan has surely been its worst. Its either keep it in the garage and stare at it, or use it and suffer the consequences
