stuck in gear in the cold

just got an old 77 cj5 and in the new england cold weather it seems to get stuck in gear when I first start it in the morning, once it warms up and you drive it a few blocks it is fine and is fine the rest of the day, but when it sits overnight it has a hard time going into reverse, but 1,2 and 3 work fine? any ideas on what might be wrong, thanks in advance, pb

Switch to 50W oil. This was a common mantainence item when I was stationed in Alaska.

Or synthetic oil.

I have the same problem in the winter here also. If I put it in neutral and let the clutch out, it will move forward.
