String's 82 CJ7 "budget Bomber"

My jeep came from a craigslist add around baltimore maryland. Its a 1982 Jeep CJ7 258 I-6, T-5, Dana 300, Dana 30 Front, AMC 20 Rear. The motor is a remanufactured engine with 5600 miles on it. It came with 2 soft tops a full top and a bikini top and a set of unmounted Cragar Soft 8's... Body looked great and frame looked even better, the only catch was it had been disassembled to be restored but the man had lost interest in it. So after some emailing and phone calls I was headed to Maryland

This is it all loaded up before heading home, The bed of the truck was full of many goodies and all the parts to put her back together

I plan to build this jeep as a budget project, it will be a mild wheeler and be purely functional (no crome push bars or anything of that nature).

I picked the jeep up for $1200 so thats my starting point

Once I got it home I stripped off the front clip and anything else bolted to the tub.

I then found a set of 31x12.50 Baja Claws for $300 with 75% tread, i mounted them up on the soft 8's and they will be my CJ's new shoes when shes back on the road

While taking off the front clip I found the front edge of my hood was rusted out. I thought it was a weird place for it to rust but in a few days I had a new hood and a pair of hard doors... I got all 3 for $200

So far I have been able to find fairly good deals

I saw that on Baltimore, it was an OK deal.

Good luck with the build!

I bought a chain hoist from harbor frieght and used the rafters of my barn to pull the tub

Once I had the body separated from the frame I pushed it out from under, dropped the drivetrain in it, and wheeled it down to the garage to start work

The rear crossmember was rough around the body mounts...

I got the new pinion seal and diff cover gasket on tonight. After that I welded up the Dif tubes and just picked up some tools and swept so I'd be ready to wrench this weekend

Pulled the rear axle and masket off the drivetrain and painted the frame this weekend... Used this stuff called chassis saver that I can get really cheap from work. It seems like a knock off POR15 but time will tell how it holds up.

ThE UPS MAN LEFT SOME STUFF ON THE DOOR STEP TODAY!

Front Currie Shackles
Rear Currie Shackles
Main Eye Bushings
Daystar 1" BL

I also picked up a grill shellm, semi rugged front bumper, and some side steps in return for doing a little welding for a guy The bumper is staying but im not a fan of the whimpy side steps so if anyone wants them let me know!

I got started on the body a little today. I cut the passengers floorboard out and found that the PO had gotten a little fiberglass happy...

The steel part is on the left and on the right is the fiber glass that was layed over top of it! You gotta love what people consider proper fixes (sarcastic voice).

After that I re-bushed the rear suspension and slid the rear back under the frame. One problem though, the drivers side shackle is way crooked? It was like this before I took it apart and I thought new bushings would correct the problem but I was mistaken. Any Ideas on how to fix this issue?

Your shackle hanger looks tweaked from the picture. I am no expert but I bet a new set of Crabtree Tool & Die shackle hangers all the way around would fix that problem.

edit: I now see you have a new thread going...
