It's slang for Distributor because it spins so much

Yeah I have been working on cars/trucks/motorcycles since I was in 2nd-3rd grade (about 7 years old, my first learning exp was changing brakes with a screw driver woof we were poor ) and I cannot remember when I first heard it but it's been around a while.
