I've seen the carpet on rocker panels before for the Limited models but never the aluminum strips for the hardtop.

Would you know the exact location of the hook for the seat strap?
Measuring from the first hole for the hardtop by the door opening, the first hole for the hook is 7 3/4" on center back from the hardtop hole. The holes on the hook are 1" OC.

Yes, thanks for posting the picture of the strap and for the dimensions. Is it permanently attached to the seat support at all or is it removable?

It's all removable. As you can see where it goes around the the seat bump screw the loop is sewn big enough to fit over the end of it so you can remove it and put in the glovebox if you'd like.

Sorry it took so long. Selling my house and moving so my CJ was not easy to get to, but this is out of my 1986 Owner's Manual.

Me too, and, I was always wondering about a good way to keep the seat folded/tumbled. Great topic.
While we are at it, how does the flip down windshield stay down/ not bounce ?
I have a strap on the inside of my windshield with a click buckle. Sewn on and I am sure it is stock. I don't have the hood anchor point. How does it work ?
I should say that I do have the metal bracket which something else should secure it to the hood.

Factory strap didn't have a click buckle, it had a canvas strap with a metal buckle on it you loop the strap back through. Hood has a footman loop right in the middle that you run the strap through.

Seeing I can't view 1986cj's photo (iPad and iPhone says connection error PC says I'm forbidden) and I can't upload a picture from my 1985 manual, I guess I'll just have to wait until they get this whole picture thing straightened out

If you're referring to the strap from windshield frame to hood, then yes.

That's a little different from the 86' manual. 1985 looks as if they want you to loop it around the seat belt anchoring point on the roll bar.

Was there a permanent strap bolted behind the seat belt for 1985? If there was, I guess people complained about the strap blowing around while driving the Jeep without a top so AMC moved it to loop on the seat foot bumper and then to attach it to a hook on the tub.

I'll have to research the Parts Manual a little bit to see.

Since I have no holes for any type of top, can I get a measurement from the vertical body seam of the tub side panel-to-rear corner panel instead?

I thought it would be flapping in the wind too. I went to my Jeep dealer and he gave me the name of two dealerships that still had straps so I bought them both. Ill post a picture when they show up. I took a picture of my parts manual of the strap i think i'm getting. On my 85 the measurements from the corner seam to the holes are 30 1/16 and 31 1/8.
