Auto or manual? My 80 and 83 both came with the T176 manual, I believe there was also the T4 or the T5 options.

looks like there could be a few choices on the CJ-7s

Quote:
Transmissions
  • Warner T-18 (4 speed)
  • Borg-Warner T-4 (4 speed)
  • Borg-Warner T-5 (5 speed)
  • Tremec T-150 (3 speed manual
  • Tremec T-176 (4 speed manual)
  • Borg-Warner SR-4 (4 speed)
  • GM TH-400 (3 speed automatic)
  • Chrysler TF-999 (3 speed automatic transmission - 4.2L)
  • Chrysler TF-904 (3 speed automatic transmission - 2.5L)
the 258ci engine was the 4.2 correct?

sorry i'm a TJ guy so i don't know much about CJs.

thanks,

John

All automatic CJ's were column shift. If you have a 6-cylinder, its the TF-998/999. The 4-cylinder got the 904.

Yes, that is the 4.2. And it has the TF999. They stopped putting the TH400 in CJ's after 79.
