Steering Play

Hi, I got my jeep running now but I seem to have some play in the steering. It kind of jitters all around when I'm going down the road, it gets worse as I get above 50-55 mph. I don't really know what is wrong, any suggestions?

I remember somebody had a bearing that was worn out, but I can't find the thread, what was that about.

Check the lower end of your steering column. Grab the steering shaft and give it a shake back and forth. If it is loose you found your problem. There is a bushing inside the lower steering column that is a very common wear item. You can find a rebuild kit for this on eBay if you search "Jeep steering column". The price isn't bad for this kit. I was not able to find the rebuild kit anywhere else including the dealer and auto parts stores. Hope this is the problem because it is an easy fix. Good luck.

Also, there's a little screw you can adjust on top of the steering box. Small adjustments at a time.

I had a similar problem. What are you running for lift, tires, and shackels? Is it still stock? I had to shim my from axle to get the caster back to normal due to the longer shackels. Just a thought.
