Starting Problem

I am having trouble figuring out my starting issue. My batterie is good. All the guages turn on when i turn the key. Sometimes it will not turn over. I dont get a noise when it will not turn over. I just turn the key and the guages turn on. It cranks when im jump start it and runs good just cant cut it off ha! I think the starter is going out because some times it will turn over. Is there a way to check the starter while it is still connected. Any suggestions would be great. O yea i have a 4.3 L v-6 out of a late 70's camaro in my jeep. Thanks for the help

Besides redoing to connections is there a way to check it with a test light or anything?
