spring over lift on CJ 5

I have a very stiff 4" spring lift on my CJ5, and am looking for ways to soften the ride, some one suggetsted going to stock springs and doing a spring over. I would like to stay at 4" of lift. Any thoughts?

If you use stock springs SOA you're still gonna get more than 4" of lift. Plus, you'll have to deal with other issues like steering and driveshaft angles/length. I run Rubicon Express 1.5" Wrangler springs SOA on my early CJ and love the way the CJ rides compared to the old springs I had. I think spring quality has alot to do with your ride quality. You might want to switch your springs out for some of the higher end jobs by places like Rubicon Express or Old Man Emu.. their expensive but you get great quality stuff...

First of all I would start out by changing your shocks. Maybe go with the Rancho 9 way adjustable shocks. You'll be amazed at how much a better ride you'll get with them. If you're still set on going SOA on your CJ5 I would go with the RE 1.5" reverse eye SOA springs like BESRK suggested. Their 2.5 " wide like YJ springs and are not as stiff. I have them on my 77 CJ5 and wouldn't go any other route Keep in mind....once you go SOA...you'll be sitting at least 7" taller than stock height...perfect for 35's. Unfortunately, with the CJ5's short wheelbase involved their's a little more work to be done compared to doing a SOA on a CJ7 or YJ. Good luck

Here's what mine looks like with everything done

New shocks could help. Also, greasable shackles will give it a little better ride (stay under 1" of lift though). You could also remove a leaf and add shackles or a 1" body lift to compensate for the lost height. Like everyone said, SOA would be the best if done right, but that can get expensive and i don't know if you're ready to go that big or do all the work. HTH
