Spool for DD???

Well, throwing around the idea one last time. Here's the run down; 84 Cj 7, AMC 150, T 4, 4" BDS lift, 1/2 HD Shackle, D 30 front, AMC 20 rear, 32" tires.

Plans; 258 w/ 4.0 swap, T 176, twin stick for D 300, one piece axles for AMC 20, truss the AMC 20, 34x 10.5 tires, Aussie Locker for D 30 and a spool for the AMC.

I have been doing some major research and what I have found is that people who never ran a spool say stay away from them. Those who do say they love it. If you rotate the tires when you're suppose to, then they don't ware as bad. You just have to slow down around curves. Ok barring that, I can't seem to figure out any other concerns. I bought the spool three years ago for 75 bucks and right after that many have turn me against it. Now that I'm looking to up grade, the wife asked me about this funny looking thing I got three years ago and wonders when I'm going to install it. I told her about the concerns and she tells me to do more research. I did and I'm finding out that it isn't as bad as others said. With that said and my plan outlined above, what do you guys think? Still a viable plan, or should I scrap the spool and why?

I have run both a detroit and spool in the back. Detroit wins hands down for driving on the street....and you can have fun with gas and still make a little noise.
Spool is very tough going slow in parking etc..but is completely predictable after you get used to it. Tires will wear faster with the spool...but fewer parts to break in the diff.

I plan on switching my spool for an ARB if that give you an idea of my satisfaction with the spool.

I have no idea on the AMC 20 though...all of mine have been in 14 bolts and 44s etc..not sure how the 1 pc axles will do with the spool???

I am thinking of doing the same thing on my rear, I have read it is a lot better than a detroit because of the predictability and strength of the solid spool. I would get a selectable locker, but I don't have the budget for that.

This is a dead horse beaten too often. Spools suck on snowy/icy roads. period. You've done the research, you can't find a reason not to put it in, so do it. In the end, only you can decide if it was worth it.
