Spindle Bearing and Seal Kit

Hello Again...

I see various kits for the Dana 30. Currently I have the Timken SBk1 which comes with 3 pieces (bearing, bearing seal, and the angled rubber seal)

My question is in all the write-ups, I see there are some kits with 4 pieces and some with 5. Which one do I need, or is the one I have acceptable? I know the bearing goes in and then the smaller 2 lip seal. The other 1 or two pieces is what goes on the axle and the presses against the back of the spindle. Do I need 1,2,3 extra pieces!?

i dont know what is in the other kits but my SBK1 from AA was a 3 piece as you mentioned and unless something was missing prior to me taking it apart, 3 pieces were all i needed.....

the napa one you reference looks more like a pinion set up with a slinger ring....

I see, so was the thrust washer separate from the kit?

Is that what you're holding in the second picture or is the thrust washer the piece with the conical? If that is not the piece you're holding, then was it bought separately?



EDITED!! I think I answered my question after looking at some of the parts sites. If you buy the 2nd two kits they come with the thrust washers. If you by the Timken, then you need to get a separate thrust washer.= from quadratec or jeep4x4center

Hmnmm...I thought the thrust washer came with the SBK-1 kit...not sure now...but yes, I am holding the thrust washer in pic #2.

interesting..... I have never had a thrust washer.... not sure what purpose it would serve in this application......ideas?

The thrust washer is simply a plastic disk that keeps the metal parts on the axle from contacting the metal parts on the spindle. It rides on the stub axle inside (under) the bellows seal and should be part of the kit (we always used the BK1) which would include the outer bellows seal, inner spindle seal, and the bearing.

My kit from NAPA (SFK's BK1) had 5 pcs. like the link you provided and looked like Asteves pics. The spindle bearing, it's seal, the rubber lipped seal, the plastic thrust washer, and the metal stone shield.
