Someone Please Post A Pic Of Your CJ Tailgate....

I'm looking to gather up parts to install a CJ Tailgate in my CJ5 which currently doesn't have a tailgate. Could you guys/gals help me with the following pics:

- Shot from inside the tub showing back of the tailgate
- Latch mounting points
- Hinges
- Tailgate open/closed position
- Strap and Strap mounts
- And anything else I'm forgetting...........

Need the pics ASAP folks as I'm trying to order a tailgate today or try to find one on craigslist (not very lucky so far).

Awesome info but I'm wanting to do a CJ7 tailgate. The only problem I think I'm going to run into is securing the softtop since the channel won't be there. I could also do the snaps like you have on yours though.....

go forward and backward from this page... it was a Wrangler tub that got a CJ tailgate conversion...
certifiablejeep.com - Project "Free Jeep" a.k.a Project "FJ" - part #30

Putting one on a 5 could work, you will need to get all the mounting brackets, the hinges, the cables... Also, check the size of the openting from 5 to 7 to make sure it fits in there nicely.

Craig,

Thanks again for another link......appreciate it. As for the tailgate, I'm starting with a blank wall as the Jeep never had a tailgate so it should be fairly easy (all things considered) as long as the first cut is correct

I just ordered all the parts yesterday from 4wd so we'll see how it turns out. Still wishing there was others (besides you) that have some pics.......thanks again though.

the only other set of pictures is on the last Jeep I did... I don't know if you are looking for CJ5's with CJ7 tailgate pictures, but for the most part, I have never seen pictures of that, so I am not sure how many are out there.

Is the tailgate supposed to hang that low? I figured it would be horizontal to the ground? Are the ropes/wires strong enough to support a person's weight sitting on them or standing on them.

Normally they are horizontal. Yes you can sit on them, my 14 yr old is 6 ft 2 and weighs around 280 and it holds hin fine.

They should hang horizontal, I think the wires are to long on that jeep, you can sit on them just fine.

no $hit... at the size I was at 14 and what I ended up at, he should be close to an O-lineman by the time he is 21...

It looks to me that the hinges on the yellow jeep might be upside down, the open tailgate is way to close to the tub. My CJ7 tailgate holds my 205# just fine, And lowers level with the bed. The hinges on the gun metal jeep are the correct orientation.

You are correct they are upside down. To put a 7 tailgate on a 5 is a little bit of work. first off the gate on the 7 is taller than the tub of the 5
