soft top or hard top?

Hello again I'm back with another question I'm looking for a top for my 79 cj7 Im leaning towards a tan hard top but the wife wants a black soft top (don't get me wrong I can get what I want but happy wife = Happy life) she thinks black will look better but I have seen many white jeeps with the tan top and I think they look pretty sharp so any suggestions will help with the soft top vs hard top I don't like the noise of the soft top and she don't want to store the hard top in the summer time.. and pictures would be great

I think it depends on how often you use it. If it's only a pretty weekend/wheeler, I would go with the soft top. If its going to be used daily, the hard top.

Mine with black top. You can always paint it the color of your choice.

i have both hard top and soft top.

do you have ac?

it sucks taking the hardtop on and off. storing it is not trouble, put it in the corner of hte yard. but, on the other hand, having the hardtop in the winter is waaaayyyyyyy better then having a soft top. the soft top noise sucks when driving, horribly loud. i have a radio in my jeep but who knows if it works, couldn;t hear it if it did because of wind noise but if i could only choose one, i would keep my hardtop. i can lock my stuff up and not worry about people stealing it and its warm in the winter

I don't feel like working on anything, at this time.

I have 2 Jeeps, a 1991 YJ with hard top and hard doors. When cold weather gets here, I like driving it. But my CJ7 with soft top and soft doors is my favorite. Here in western VA, I can drive the CJ about 8 months. Some of those are cold, but I bundle.

If you have one Jeep, I would recommend a soft top and get some hard doors for the colder weather. Doors are easier to store.

Here is a pic from my build thread:

I probably would have ordered black if I had bought new, but the tan one came with my frame and engine and was in great shape. Now that I have it, I really like it and that it adds some color. I have tan full soft doors, though my new bikini top is black.

In my own tastes, I like the tan on white better but it's yours(hers) so do watcha want.

Edit - don't get the spice but the desert tan like color.

personally with the black roll bar, black interior and black half doors I think the black top would look best weather you go with a hard or soft top. now the route I chose to take is to run a hard top in the cold months and swap out for a bikini top for the warm months. that way I only have to wrestle the hard top twice a yr. when it comes off and when it goes back on.

I used to have this Sahara tan or sand one on mine. Now I'm looking for a spice one.

I'd match the seats. It will look more consistent. You say it's for the weekends and not a daily driver; I'd go soft top. You're in Turlock. What's it get down to in the winter, maybe 40°?

If it has A/C, go with the hard top. If it has carpets and isn't garaged, I'd consider a hard top. But I sure love my soft top!

If it was MY Jeep? I'd get BOTH in black.

I'd rather be lost on the trails than found at home!

Yea sold it a while ago, looking for a spice one to match the seats and interior. Haha, you like the coon, trapped that thing and had to take it for a ride to release it.
