Skid plate bolt repair

When i bought my 79 CJ5 two years ago there were several issues with the jeep. Over the past 2 years I have been slowly repairing some of the previous owner's gerry rigging. My Cj had the typical broken bolts in the frame to secure the skid plate to the frame. Instead of trying to remove the bolts, he rigged up 4 pieces of all thread and steel plates bent over the frame for support.

I ordered these weld in inserts from McMaster-Carr. They will hold a 3/8" bolt. i borrowed a mag drill from work and drilled the old nuts out. Next i welded the inserts in. I need to grind the welds and do some painting.

What do you guys think?

Lol!! and I thought my skidplate repair was bad. I simply drilled a hole straight through the bad nutsert, through to the other side, so I could use a long bolt.

Very jealous of the mag drill. I hope to add one to my arsenal one of these days.
