Six to 12Volt

I'm wanting to go from a six volt system to 12. I know I'm going to need to replace all the lights. What about the Spartan turn signal unit? Is it safe? What else am I looking at replacing or "resisting?"

you will need to replace your flasher, but should not need to replace your spartan switch. The only part that is semi voltage specific is the pilot light and the 6v bulb will normally work fine at 12 volts. You will also need to add a ballast resistor to the + side of the coil so it will last and you don't burn your points up. You will need a 6 volt source if you have any electric gauges, ie, gas, oil, temp. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Runtz-...cers,2374.html Also will need a voltage reducer if you still have a 6v blower motor along with windshield wipers. Starter will work fine on 12v, just spin a bit faster.

Don't forget to replace the coil with a 12 volt one.
Insure your wipers (if you have them) are 12V (or get a resistor).
Also, since you can now run just about anything, do yourself a favor and install a fused buss or better yet, upgrade to a fuse box to run all your new stereo's, lights, and other cool jigglies that will eventually migrate onto the Jeep.
