Looks great, I agree with you, it looks good w/o the decals. Maybe some subtle black pin stripes around the hood and around the tub. Not too much to take away the "clean" look. Well done!

I repainted two VWs a few years ago in a garage. A 66 Bettle and a 66 Bus. I used single stage on both. It worked well except for the Beetle. I sprayed the front fenders when it was raining outside. developed little blisters six months later. My current CJ7 project will be painted with OD Green AJP single stage from Gillespie Coatings.

Thanks for all the kind words, gentleman.

My paint job won't win any car show awards, but it's a he11uva improvement from the original 30-year old finish. Besides, I can proudly say it was my first restoration, and I did it all myself!!

Now for that axle re-gearing that I've been putting off.....

Matt -
Nice!! I still can't decide on a color..... When you can pick any color you want, it's almost overwhelming. As far as your decal dilema - I feel your pain. Looks very nice "nekid", but the decal kit would look sharp too. If it was 50 or 60 bucks, it would easy to get it and try it. 300 bucks - man, that's a lotta dough to waste if you don't like it.

Rob,

I hear you on the color selection. What drove my decision was that my dash was still in great shape, and it all works, so I chose not to tear it apart. Consequently, I stuck with the original AMC Olymipic white.

Looks great Matt, been wondering about how it was coming along. Was over in Parker the other day, looking at a Scrambler for sale, and thought about your jeep.

I think decals add another dimension to the overall appearance, but in the end its your ride, and, well, you can always add them later if yout want.

My two cents. As long as it's the same color, put the decals back on it. My 83 is also white with the blue decal package and I personally love the combo. When I finally repaint, the only way I lose the decals is if I go with a different color. I think the decals make that white pop.

Wow Matt, that came out really nice. I like it plain white and wouldn't do the decals if it were mine.

Ha. You couldn't afford me.

Actually, I'm considering tackling a few touchup on my newish Tundra.

By my count, the tally on the decals is 4 yes, 4 no and 2 undecided. Thanks for making my decision easier, fellas. LOL!! Seriously, I really do appreciate the opinions.

I'll probably buy the badges for the rear, but I've decided to roll without the decals for the time being.

On a side note, apparently this thread provided inspiration for another member to paint his own rig. So, that member generously paid for my JF membership to say thanks!

I would like to raise my cyber-glass in toast to all of you who contributed and provided encouragement for me to tackle this project. Without your help it would have never happened.
