Shock Mount Question

Okay I have been tearing apart jeep and today I am seperating the suspension from the frame. When I was removed the shock bolt it was seized and just broke right off, and on other ones the threads are all messed up. But the threaded portion of the spring mount appears to be riveted on. (reminded me of the ball joints on a chevy car) Can I somehow drill out the rivets and replace with a bolt and metal sleeve? Anyone done this ? I think it would be over the top to have to cut them off and have new ones welded on. What did you guys do?

Sounds like maybe you're mixing up some terms and it's making things a little confusing when trying to figure out how to help you. Since you didn't fill out your profile with your Jeep info, I'm going to assume from your username that you have a '77 which would have the short upper shock mounts all the way around. You can grind down the welds on those studs and knock them out of the mounts or buy new mounts, then bolt in new studs (new shocks often come with studs in the box).

my apologies for being a little unclear. You hit it right on the head though. Out of curiosity what shocks come with new studs? never seen that before. It doesn't make sense to me to replace the mounts(not to mention i dont have a welder to weld the new ones to the frame)

I've gotten them in the box with Ranchos and Trailmasters. I've got a new set of Ranchos I just brought home out of storage at work and don't need the studs if they have them.
