Shock Mount Help
Wanted to replace the top bolt / hardware for the rear shocks while I have the tub off. Not buying new shocks yet (the spending is adding up) but thought it would be a good idea to replace this hardware since it is pretty much rusted on, and fresh hardware would be easier to remove a year from now.
I cut the bolt to get the shock off - but as you can see in this pic I can't knock it out of the mount! Does it even come out or do I need new hardware to weld on all together? http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh9/kbonsig/th_IMG_2579.jpg

That is not meant to come out. You can either drill it out and fab something up or find a used one.

I think MORE sells weld on replacements - does anyone know where else I can get a pair? 4WD Hardware does not sell them.

Those front or rear mounts? Those look like rear there are these on ebay.
Found these also original nos one but still no bolt. http://collinsbros.stores.yahoo.net/76cjrefrshmo.html You would still have to find a bolt that works. I would just drill/cut out the one thats there and weld a new one on. Craig Last edited by craigb86; 08-12-2008 at 06:45 PM.. |

I just made some shock hoops for my CJ5.. I'm goint to plasma the stock Narrowtrac (short) front shock mounts off the frame in a few days. If you want them, I can try to be careful with the removal so they can be welded back on. I think they're in good shape. Just let me know..

Not sure if they're exact but I think they'd work. If I can remember, I'll take a closer look on my CJ today.

I think it will work - looks like I may have to shave off a little to make it a flush fit - I'm going to give it a shot. Let me know what you think if you check out your CJ.
Thanks!

You might try to carefully cut and drill the old shock stud off, and replace it with a "bolt on" shock stud. My AFW (now TDK) CJ8 frame is set up with bolt on shock studs in the rear. A decent parts store should be able to help with replacement studs. May be easier than welding on a new bracket.

I have a welder coming here next week to do some frame work - just dropped $400. more on various parts (I should be done now) including the cj5 shock mounts. I can't deal with anymore rusted bolts between my old tub and this frame - my build would be much more enjoyable without all this rust.
