Shock length

I got some shocks for my 4 inch lift in my CJ, and they are far too short. They are the trailmaster's that quadratec suggested for my amount of lift. Does anyone know if I can get some for 5 inches of lift and have any problem? The 4 inches are just too short, and they are going to limit my flex. Let me know guys.

Best bet is to flex out your rig and measure to see what you need for collapsed & extended length.

what do you do then-- get a shock in the middle? I know that sounds stupid, but you know what they say about there are no stupid questions. I am not really sold on that because i see some real good ones on here from time to time

I'd have to take my shocks I have now completely off in the front and probably the back to get it to flex all the way out. Any other ways of determining what I need?

If you look on Summit Racing's website, they have the applications for all of their shocks listed. When I bought my Skyjacker shocks for my CJ I looked at all of them and ended up getting shocks for a 1-3" lift or something like that, because the factory length shocks wouldn't work. You should be able to find CJ shocks specified to work with a 4" lift and they should work.

Anything else is gonna be a guess, which is what you already have. You could look up the specs on your shocks and compare them to what another manufacturer offers for a 4" lift...you may find some glaring inconsistency.

A shock in the middle of what? You'll get two measurements from the distance between your shock mounts...the shock specs will include the same measurements (not necessarily the exact same numbers you got, but a collapsed and extended length). You pick something that has enough travel to not bottom out before your suspension does and not be fully extended before your suspension reaches full droop.
