Shackle hangers

I pieced together the Rubicon Express 4.5" Extreme duty lift on Amazon and do not want to use the conversion shackles that come with the kit. Since I am using the CJ springs I will not need to move the hanger forward but I will need one for the 2.5" spring. Will a YJ front hanger fit the holes in a TDK frame? Or can I just get 2 rear CJ hangers and pu them in front? Are the hangers the same except for width? Thanks

the rear CJ hangers don't have a hole to clear the crossmember rivet where the front hangers sit, and they are shorter...they would be hard to make fit right i think. i don't know about stock yj hangers, but there are many aftermarket hangers that will mount stock to the CJ location but are wider for the 2.5" spring. here is one example

i have seen those but I do not need to move my hanger forward the inch that these do. I bought the "CJ" lift with "CJ" springs, not "YJ" springs. Looking for a set of 2.5" hangers for the front that will fit a TDK frame.

Rubicon Express makes shackles for this.... RE2785 Front CJ conversion shackle kit - Never mind re-read and see you don't want to use them.

I'm not quite following. Is the R.E. springs 2.5" wide for the front, but still 43" like the CJ springs?
I have the 2.5" MORE hangers for my TDK frame but it creates a problem for my bumper bolts because it's already stretched the extra 1/2" for the conversion. They're made for the wrangler spring width and length, but for on a Jeep, so the holes would be adjusted IF they weren't the same, so I can't say if there is a difference. Did you check with Warrior Products brand?

Yes. RE sells 2 4.5 lift kits. 1 is for the YJ the other is for a CJ and has 2.5" front springs but at the CJ length. IAs stated in my first post I do not want to use the conversion shackles I am looking for a shackle hanger that will fit the 2.5" springs and work at the stock CJ length.

Did you find a pair yet Johnny? I just ordered a set from 4WDInc, hoping they'll fit better. I went to put on my ones from MORE and once they're on you can't access the front bumper bolt hole on the bottom of the frame. The mount sticks too far forward, plus I'd still have to notch my bumper to let it fully fit on. That seems to be the trade off if you shift the mount forward, which was built into them. But I'm using longer shackles so that should address the issue. We'll see.

Thats one of the things I'm hoping to avoid. All the 2.5" shackle hangers I can find are longer to fit the YJ springs. I found an old pair of CJ front hangers in my attic and am considering just making my own. I have access to all the tubing and plate that I would need. If that doesnt work I can get one of the machinists I work with to government job me a set out of a solid piece of stock. Still looking ....I have time. The frames been in the garage for months and is still only in primer. Spring is a busy time at my house. As soon as I get started on the rebuild I will try and post some pictures.

You're going to have to alter the rear hangers if you plan to use them up front. The way they're made they would set the shackle mounting location rearward about 3/4". So now you'd be about 1 7/8" inches too short for the YJ style springs.

The hanger in the top of the picture is what I make that puts the mounting place where it should be. The middle is the factory front mount and the bottom is the rear. The mounting holes are lined up for all three mounts so that gives you an idea of where the eye placement would be if you used any of them.

Go with the Crabtree no comparison in my book for the quality. I can't wait to get mine in the mail and put them on.

It looks like the OP is wanting a stock length shackle hanger in a 2.5" width. Jim, can you make these 2.5" wide instead of 2"? I think that would fit the bill perfectly..

Ken, I could but haven't yet. He could also use a stock width hanger with a bushing that has thicker head.

I found out the hangers from 4WDInc are on back order for at least another week. So I think I'm going to modify the MORE mounts by drilling new holes about 5/8"-3/4" forward of the existing holes. I really like their construction, just not their fit. I'll look at it closer tonight.
