Seafoam!!! Did I use it correctly?
I put Seafoam in my CJ Friday through the brake booster vac line, I poured in a little at a time until I had used about half of the bottle. Then I let shut it off and let it set for about 10 min then started it. There wasn't much smoke at all, not even close to what I have seen on youtube videos. It did smoke a bit while I was pouring it in(also showed me where my exhaust leak was
)Just wanted to know if I did something wrong? The jeep doesn't smoke at all normally, so the best way I could describe the amount of smoke that it had after the seafoam was like it had bad rings and was burning a little oil. It was def not a huge cloud of smoke like I thought it would be. Would it be too soon to use seafoam again?

What are you trying to solve or prevent by using Seafoam?

Just thought that it would clean any gunk out of the motor, possibly better MPG, Power, better idle ect....

well i worked at a lube shop for a while and we did fuel induction services with bg44k and i liked seafoam more i use it on my dd and it helps get little better mpg and that type of stuff how i do it
#1 get a hose to put in brake line and into the bottle and let it suck the liquid in ![]() #2 dont cut car off let it suck all the liquid in #3reconnect vacuum line and rev it up a little bit and it should smoke #4 at the same time if you want to have it like people pay 100+ dollars for throw a thing of lucas in your tank

we were always told by the "bg" guy not to but sometimes after we ran the whole bottle threw, the car would cut off but if you shut it off i see no problem but it doesn't help either, guess it doesnt matter, but just make sure you rev it up some after you do it it should smoke and clean out the system

I put Seafoam in the fuel tank - it will help clean out the fuel system as it runs. Add about 1 ounce per gallon of fuel. If you use it to help clean out the crankcase, I would plan on doing an oil change fairly soon after adding the Seafoam, as it will dissolve the gunk built up in the engine. I also use Seafoam in all my small engine fuel cans (lawnmower, snowblower, boatmotor, etc). Helps keep varnish from building up in the carbs, and makes for easier starts.

I have used seafoam in several vehicles, and the only time I ever got it to smoke was in my '73 monte carlo... with a fresh 350 with only about 5,000 miles. It smoked like a freight train, looked like the house was on fire, so the neighbors called the fire department. I used it in all my POS used old vehicles with tons of miles and they never smoked. Go figure.

Ya, I figured it would smoke like crazy, so I went out to a park and did it there so it wouldn't offend the neighborhood. But it barely smoked, thats why I thought I did it wrong.

The directions on can.... say with warmed up engine, so better to do this in summer, pour the sea foam in the carb throad about 1/2 can or so and pour at a rate you stall the engine. Wait 5-10 min and start up.
The warmed up engine part and the sea foam is so there is a thermal shock to crack the gunk, carbon, etc build ups and allow the seafoam to get into the cracks and down to a clean surface. When you start up again you are blowing some of this crap out the exhaust. So good to clean the upper cylinder walls, the valves and valve seat (best results). This helps the engine seal up and breath. Put in too slow and you loose all the thermal shock effect. The directions are on the can. |

suck up a can and wait overnight, also cleans well in the crank case, or in the gas tank, especially for those who have injectors. good stuff.

i drove my jeep for about 30 mins then dumped half the bottle in the throttle body with the engine off. Waited 15 mins and fired it up. Smoked out my whole block.

When using seafoam, or any other combustion cleaner (BG44k, GM upper cyl cleaner, etc) you want to have the engine at operating temps. The buildup is like tar - gets softer when hot - so it is easier for the chemical to soak in. This is why you'd also allow it to sit for a half hour or so, to give it a chance to work. BG guy told us that when the cleaner is going into the engine, not to let it stall or shut it off until it has run thru the whole can - risk of hydrolock. You can let it sit for a few after the can was sucked in.

There shouldn't have been enough fluid volume to hydrolock... unless a can was dumped in at once.
![]() Anyway, waiting 15 to 30 minutes works well on a warm engine. My original engine smoked so much the neighbors almost called the fire department.

All it would take is a little more than enough fluid to fill the volume of one combustion chamber on the compression TDC to hydrolock. I expect that it seeped past the rings while sitting in your case. I wouldn't try it.
