scrap yard find- need price on a CJ5

I was at a local scrap yard getting some parts for my YJ when I saw a old CJ5.
I have always wanted one but somehow never got one.

It is an old CJ5. The body is shot, the front clip isn't bad though, the frame looks mint. No noticeable rust through or heavy rust. It has a T90 tranny, spicer 18 T-case w/p-brake on the output shaft. I think the motor is the 225 buick odd-fire. It's a v-6 anyway. The axles are much bigger looking than the 27a's on my Scout so I think they might be 44's???

The scrap yard said they don't care what it is they are only interested in scrap weight and they said it would probably be around $400-$500. Is this a fair price considering the tub is mostly all plywood and it isn't running??? thanks.

I paid $800 for my 57 cj5. What junkyard is this? I bought mine off a guy up in Shirley it was in a snowbank not running and the body had lots of dings, but no rust or rot and same for the frame. Does it have a title? that is the biggest thing in this state no title not worth it. If you are prepared to drop the money needed on a new tub then it is a good deal. Mine had the original f-head and started right up!

Title may be a problem. I once heard some one say though that if you buy from a junkyard they can get you a salvaged title easily. There is a junkyard in Worcester with a few jeeps maybe 1 cj 1 yj and 4 tjs?

I'd pick it up for that price. Older CJs are getting to be really pricy and everyone thinks that they have
a piece of gold on their hands. Like someone else said, you'll probably be looking for a repro body and probably alot more work, but if its a project that you're looking for, the preice is right. otherwise, turn someone else onto it. It shouldn't end up in a crusher.
