The owner is out of state. I'm meeting up with him on Monday the 19th to check it out. It does not run, and my guess is that it hasn't started in at least 3 years. Look at the rust on the pavement under the front bumper. I remember when I came to school here three years ago seeing this thing parked in the same place that it is now.

I'd buy it in a second, if the price is right. Being that it has sat for 3 years and YOU tracked HIM down, I think you are in a good position to negotiate. It can be as reliable as you want it to be. I swapped out the Carter BBD for a Howell FI setup and have driven from Ohio to Scrambler events in Oklahoma, Tennessee and Michigan without incident. I finally broke down and bought a trailer to drag it with, and it was the Grand Cherokee that broke, not the Scrambler.

Go for it. All the cool kids have 'em.

As long as you know going into it what needs to be fixed to make it DD-able and the price is right, jump on it.

Who leaves a perfect running CJ-8 parked in a campus parking lot for three years? -- No One!!

Just make sure you have the resources to fix it right, before you sacrifice your dependable daily transportation.

Good luck brother, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. That looks like a sweet find.

You should be in good shape with the 4.0 EFI head or engine you say is installed in that thing..... as long as the motor isn't blown up.

Inspected it a little more today. I popped the hood and checked a lot of stuff out. It's got a 4.0 for sure. The oil is not milkshake, just dirty. The radiator has nothing in it, which worries me, and there is some serious corrosion going on in there. The hood is dented from flying up and hitting the windshield frame, but no other damage. All the door seals are dry rotted as well as the window seals, and the dash pad is seriously cracked. Here are some more pics. You can see my XJ in the background if you look close.

Wonder why it wasn't towed after being abandoned in that parking lot for so long? I'm amazed no one has stolen all the stuff in the bed. Or stolen the whole Jeep, for that matter.

That Realistic cassette player is worth a ton!

My guess is that you might be able to get it for cheap - I'd shoot for $3K. (Flame on) The bed rust would worry me a little, but the rest of it is all available second hand, you should have no trouble DIYing it. I'd be curious if that odometer is correct and working - it would be a surprise to me that someone went through the trouble of throwing in a 4.0 head or full engine with that little mileage.

The guy contacted me again and we're planning on meeting up on Friday. If I can get this thing for short money then I'll tow it home to MA with me behind my XJ and get it up and running over Christmas break. The paint is really chalky and it needs attention now or it's just going to rot away up here in NY.

Let him make the first offer, you might find that he doesn't want as much as you are willing to pay. An old mentor of mine used to say "whoever says the price first loses." Ask him what he wants for it and then go from there.

I am all tingly waiting to see what you get it for. Good luck.

What is that squiggly hose right behind the storage box?
I hope that is not a bottle of Dex-cool in the corner.
I also see a brake controller.

Can't wait. We all want to know what happens.

Once again: IF YOU DON'T BUY IT, PLEASE PASS ON THE INFO TO ME.

That is one solid Scrambler (compared to EVERYTHING else I have seen) and I would buy it in a heart beat..... That one is "show room new" compared to what I started with on my first one.

The center console is a Tuffy stereo security console. $300.00+ brand new. Likely a better stereo in it than the Realistic in the dash.

I would jump on that. It would be a cool project that you could do small upgrades to and still drive it daily. As long as you don't do a lot of long distance commuting and traveling I don't see a problem with it.
