Scott,

I'm sure you have a plan for finishing the frame, but I thought I'd share my experiences.

I had good luck filling those bubbly, semi-rusted areas with Evercoat Metal Glaze. It was much easier to work with than other fillers that I tried. It spreads smoothly, doesn't shrink, was easy to sand, and took paint well.

Anyway, I thought I'd mention it. You probably already have a program down.

Matt

No, Matt, I don't really have a program... yet. This is kind of unfolding as I go. Clay's Jeep was easy... everything was wrong with it! My Jeep LOOKS good on the outside. It DROVE well (after new bushings, suspension, etc). But you know how all that goes! I am sincerely hoping to not have to get into a major rebuild here. I don't want to remove the tub right now. There is no rust showing through on the outside, but I can see some CRUD forming on the inside around the bottom of the A pillars... same place you had to repair. I'm wondering if I HAVE to cut it out and weld in new now?? Where did you get your filler? Since I have a new slate I do plan to use something other than Bondo this time.

Planning on pulling the 4.3/4l60e out of the Astro, putting it on a stand, and rebuilding it, while I drive it with the 258. Wifey gets the F150.

Scott, that is a great idea and I hope it's fuel injected too

You need a family bar, to use the bikini top that will eventually make it's way to FL.

Scott,

I think my local NAPA carried the Evercoat Metal Glaze. Don't quote me on that, it was almost a year ago. That's a long time for us old farts.

Does this look familiar? You better get after them now. Mine were dangerously close to ruining the Jeep logo on the drivers side.

I'll recommend Dyna-glass. It's a 3M / Dynatron product. I used it 15 years ago and it still looks...er, looked good. It's rust and waterproof. I also used and Evercoat product called TigerHair, which is the long strand version but they make a short strand version called KittyHair, also rust and waterproof.
I used reinforced filler everywhere due to the nature of Jeep's usages.

Yep, fuel injected with 230,000 miles on it!! The engine build will be my first, and it's making me pucker. I will indeed have a family rollbar.

I remember those pics from your thread. It's making me queasy! I wonder if I can make Clay build my Jeep since I built his!? You did a great job, Matt.

Ahhhh... priorities. Makes it hard when you have more than one thing that you want badly. I think you are on the right track, Trent. Get the shop done. Make a place to work out of the sun and rain and cold. Be comfortable when you are working. You have loads of time to finish that Jeep. We'll all be here to watch you... and tell you how to do it!!

Had defensive tactics in-service today. Teaching us some new stuff. Besides hyper-extending my left knee, I got slammed a few times. I'm getting too old for this...

In-Laws are arriving this evening. Wifey told me to come pull her butt. I told her I needed to get the truck.

I don't know how I do it? I'm in the doghouse AGAIN!

Black Friday. The best day to see the true character of your neighbor. My son, Jake, stood in line for two hours to buy his mother an upgraded cell phone (Walmart), and a woman tried to grab it out of his hand, while an old lady pushed him from behind! But Clay got himself the Savage/Stevens pump 12 gauge for home defense. He wassssss............ pumped! Interesting tidbit. The genuine Savage/Stevens pump 12 gauge is made of genuine quality parts from the PRC. We should all just adopt a pet Chinee to make this crap at home... save the import fees/costs!
