I decided to take Lizzie out for a topless ride today! This would have been my first ever "wind-in-my-face" Jeep ride, and I owned it. I had been thinking about it for a couple of weeks, but with Clay's 5 all over my shop I was reluctant to start removing 7 parts. But I really needed to feel the wind in my face, along with the Bondo dust, cat hair, sand, and other items that were light enough to blow around! So just after we got home from church I went to the shop, made a path, and pushed Lizzie gently outside into the sunshine. I had to reinstall her seat and it far easier to do out of the shop. I rolled my work table out of the way... almost... and Lizzie, having been awakened from a long nap, was hesitant to go outside. So she grabbed for something to hold on to, which in this case turned out to be my DeWalt 770 Powermatic Radial Arm saw, and she dragged it off the table onto the concrete. Cast metal does not bounce! I have had that saw since college... a long time ago. What a mixed day... On a lighter note, every kid in the neighborhood (mostly mine!) came over for a Jeep ride, including my sorry neighbor's doofus kid... down to the stop sign and back home again!

Here is Dirty Lizzie before our romp, and here is my beloved saw. The pull handle also snapped off. Any suggestions on how to reattach the cast metal pull handle?

Issues to address with Lizzie that are soon coming up. I really was hoping to NOT have to deal with the A pillar, but I think I cannot avoid it.

That's a bummer on the saw. I always hate breaking something I've had for a long time.

So Lizzy is calling your name it sounds like. You gonna let Clay pick the paint scheme on her?

No... Clay won't get to pick the color. Momma wants to do that... she says medium blue with black accents. I guess she's expecting to drive her around.

Alright so i forgot who had the bench seat lol and last night i tried to reply but something broke. I want one like yours. with the indented part in the middle. Most of the ones ive been seeing are flat across the front. Wondering if that will cause problems with shifting into the bottom two gears (1st and 3rd). But honestly it mostly depends what i can find. If all i find are straight across the front ill probly go split.

Laid my windshield down this morning to look at the bottom to see how much rust was present. Was kind of scared to look! Found this sticker under the frame, and here is some rot under the cowl seal.

Yikes... Rot sucks, but you have some experience with fixing windshields, so that little bit shouldnt cause you much problems!!!

Poor saw, those things are great, my father in law gave me one when I bought the house with the land... I pretty much renovated the entire house, so it was a huge help!!! Now renovating that saw will be an interesting build in it's own. I know cast is finicky, but can you find someone to TIG it? I bet AJ can fix it!!!!

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….

My seat is from a Comanche... don't know what year. Old Ranger, and probably newer Ranger seats should also work. Since I'm over 6' I set my seat back as far as it would go, so a flat front would not interfere with shifting. It just depends where you finally decide to mount your bracket, which you will have to make. Pick something comfortable and nice looking, then make the bracket to fit. Remember the consider clearance between your legs and the bottom of the steering wheel.

Took Lizzie out for a little cruise yesterday. Me and Wifey. She said, "What's that noise?" And sure enough, there was a loud rattling coming from the right rear. I discovered it went away, sometimes, when I mashed the clutch in, so I thought U-Joint. But it didn't always go away. Then I noticed that the sound changed when I applied the brakes... it changed to a slow tick, tick, tick as she decreased in speed. So I backed her into the shop this morning, jacked up the rear, rolled underneath to check U-joints, and found them good. So I pulled the right rear wheel and discovered the parking brake strut hanging, and the parking brake strut spring laying in the bottom of the drum (got the names from my Chilton's, as I had NO IDEA what the parts were called! ). There is also quite a bit of metal shavings scattered around inside the drum? I can't see any obvious place that the shavings came from... any ideas? Why did the strut fall off? Shoes are fairly thin, drums should be turned, but all that has to come later, after we get Clay's done. Oh yeah... ALSO, when I backed into the shop and I braked, the pedal went to the floor. YIKES! I could pump them up... no sign of fluid leaking anywhere.

Agreed! But she has to wait... unfortunately.

Got everything back together, but couldn't figure out where the metal shavings came from. One of the pistons in the wheel cylinder was extended beyond normal, to the point that it wouldn't return. The shoe was pushed out and the strut fell off. The wheel cylinder is new... don't know why it super-extended? It's working... for now.
