Sandy Starter

Ok Fella's
Whats the best fix / compromise for keeping sand and dirt out of the starter when we play it the mud.
I know ... stay out of the mud. But thats why I got a Jeep.
Do the gear drive units fair any better. ?????

is it getting in the starter windings or in the bell housing where the gear engages. I run mine in A LOT of mud and deep water and have never had a problem. If you think it's getting in the windings wrap a croker (burlap) sack around it before you play. Will still let it breath but will filter mud and sand, water will still get to it but then again so does rain. Remove the sack when you get home.

Sand gets in from the bendix all the way to the brushes. I keep a spare starter and bendix handy.

That's coming in from the bell housing. Check all of your inspection covers for a good seal. Don't be afraid to use silicon.
