Rough riding CJ7

I bought a 1978 CJ7 last fall.
I've never owned a Jeep before.
So I've got a question about the ride.
It about beats me to death.
Is this normal?
The shocks aren't stock.
They look to be older heavy duty after market.

Is the Jeep lifted or has the suspension been changed or modified in any way?

what are you basing the difference in ride on. if you had a caddy and went to a jeep, yeah there is a huge difference. jeeps in general ride ruff compared to cars. you could always swap springs/shocks to get a softer ride.

The suspension looks to be stock except for the shocks.
It feels like there is no suspension at all.
I can't drive it as fast as I do my farm tractor
(with nothing but the tires to give) across
a field with out being thrown out of the seat.

We need to know more or see pics of your '78.
The reason the other guys asked about your suspension was that when new springs are placed on your jeep, the ride will be very rough for a few thousand miles until the springs settle.

Has the swaybar been removed?
Are the shackles on your jeep too tall, like they've been replaced.
Did one of your spring hangers break?
