Roll Bar Padding, Yes/No, Brand?

Easy but necessary question. Don't know if I want to pad my roll bar or not. I like the clean look of my existing bar on my 83 CJ7 but feel the need to pad it. Maybe because I previously had an 89 Wrangler but it just looks naked to me. Pros/Cons to the padding? If yes, what brand, type. Thanks from a newbie

I prefer padding. I had a Bestop one that was pretty nice, but came across a shiny black one and couldn't pass it up.

Head hits roll bar, head hurts.
I hit my head one time so hard I saw stars.

Not to steal the thread but I like the idea of padding on the roll bar. Problem is I'm about to have some custom work done to mine and it won't accept the "package" ones you can order. Does anyone know of someone still making the kind you can cut to custom length and install?

I think padding is the way to go. Anyone know where to get the padding for a 72?

Another pro-padding vote here. It looks good with or without, but it will look better after you bump your head on the padding and realize you can still see straight.

the fit of the Bestop padding is spot-on, it can't be beat, (IMO) for looks.unfortunately, the padding that comes with it is minimal, and offers only slighter better protection than the bar it covers. I still think it's a good option for a DD.

I just picked up a NOS set (from steel horse) for $20, but the fit isn't as good as the Bestop, but for new, and $20 what the heck!

most race car places sell closed cell foam that is spec'd for padding cages, and some even have a straight cut to fit cover, though it'd likely be just as easy into having your wife/mom sew some up for you.
