I don't know for fact, But I would say 0.015" difference is not a thick ring gear.

My best advise is to call the PO of the new to you set.

1957 WILLYS pickup,
1973 J 4000,
1978 CJ7 DD.
1979 CJ7 360, TH400/Quadratrac.
1979 J20
1980 CJ5 trail Jeep.
1983 CJ7
1989 YJ the CJ to YJ.

I believe the pinion I need is one that doesn't take a crush sleve

If you get a Dana 30 ring and pinion set that's compatible with the CJ version it won't use a crush sleeve.

Seems pretty simple to get the right part to me and cheaper than buying a series of questionable or incorrect parts.

Well I didn't know they made them wit or without a crush sleve and the guy is going to refunt my momey and take the pinion back

No CJ Dana 30 ever used a crush sleeve if that's what you want to know.
