Reverse lights wires, Location?

just swapped a manual for an auto and need to get the reverse/backup lights going again. i know they connected to the old manual tranny, but i can't seem to find that wire at the moment. can anyone tell me where that wire should be, or where it originates from? perhaps i could trace it.. what colors the wires are, what the plug looks like etc.

i found one wire, well 2 together actually, both black with a black connector at the end. it seems to terminate at the brake thing (can't recall the name) mounted on the D side frame rail. proportioning valve? is that it?

i'm sure the wires are still there, but i'm having trouble finding it/them. i need to hook them to a b&m mega shifter to get the lights working again. any pics would be great as well. thanks!

Wiring reverse lights is honesty one of the simplest circuits there is. I assume your B&M shifter has an integrated switch? All you need is a hot wire running to the switch and from the switch to the lights. The lights ground at the mounting point, so no need to run a separate ground wire. If you can't find the existing wiring just run a wire from a fused source and route it in a safe location. About a 5 minute job.

yeah but i didn't want to resort to that if i didn't have to. i know they're there.. i just can't find em. all i'd need to do is hook those to the switch on the shifter and i'd be golden.

Well they come from a inline plug on the harness usually on the passenger side of the engine. It has 3 or 4 wires going in sometimes. With a manual it probably had 3 wires coming out the other side of the plug and two wires went to the back up switch and one wire went to the 4WD switch.

i found this plug on the pass. side (i cut those wires to try them, see if they'd work. didn't.) is this the one i'm looking for?

i also looked in the loom running along the D side inside the tub, it goes back to the tail lights. i also attempted to tap into the wht/stripe wire, but that didn't work either. could i tap in here somewhere?

This is mine:

Here are the wires in the plug on the harness:

The Red and White with Trace are the wires you need to get the BU Lights working.

thanks john. that looks like the one i've been messing with, only i think i'm missing the bottom, second section that goes to the trans. i should be able to splice in some wires at that plug i have in the pic and route them to the b&m shifter, no?

which wires would i need? the red "hot" wire and what else?

Heh, I was adding to my post when you posted. Red and White with trace are the wires you need. Short them together to be sure your back up lights work.

great, many thanks john.

here's the other part of it... there are 2 connections on the shifter (see pic, the unused ones). should i run one from the red wire to one of them, and one from the wht/trace to the other? or do i need to combine them somehow?

No, Your right, red to one and White/trace to other.

Is that a Normally Open switch or Normally Closed switch?

Must be OK. That sounds like a Normally Open switch.

It shouldn't matter which wire is connected were on that switch.
