Replacement Sol-Vac?

G'day folks, was tuning my Carter BBD today and found out the Sol-Vac diaphram won't hold vacuum anymore. Can't scrap it 'cause I have to meet Cali emissions, so hoping some of you folks doing the recent carb swaps might have one left over to help me out!

thanks!

Thought about that, but I'm having a hard time finding a replacement one to buy!

Argh!

Guess I should be glad they still make them, though. I found out my rear passenger spring plate/shock mount was bent and I needed a new one rather quickly. The local Jeep dealer told me that part was "obsolete" and I'd have to buy aftermarket to replace it!

I don't have a picture of mine, but this link: http://home.sprynet.com/~dale02/solvac.htm will take you to Dale's web page (great resource for stock 80s era CJ emissions) with a picture of the SOL-VAC actuator. It's on the driver's side of the Carter, forward of the throttle linkage with a plunger pointing aft which engages the throttle assembly to raise the idle. It has 2 methods of doing this, one is vacuum (the port is on the bottom of the assembly) and the other is an electrical solenoid powered by a pigtail off the end of the unit, closest to the front of the Jeep. It's not the choke pull off which is on the passenger side towards the rear of the carb.

Thanks for your help!

Russ

We need a Sol-Vac for our 1984 Jeep Scrambler, it is required in the State of California. If we can not find one it looks like we have the option of junking it or getting a Howell Fuel Injection system at about $1300 or selling the vehicle out of state.

BAR Information- CARB

Here is information to keep in mind if a part is not available per California requiriments-

http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/80_BARResources/02_SmogCheck/Parts_Locator.html

California Emission Parts Locator Service-

How Does the Parts Locator Service Work?
A telephone agent provides each caller with the names and telephone numbers of three or more suppliers that may have the required part(s). The motorist then contacts the suppliers, and may purchase the part(s) from the supplier of their choice.

However, if part(s) are not available, the motorist must call and advise the Parts Locator. After verification that the parts are not available, the Parts Locator then issues a "Limited Parts Exemption" which is mailed to the motorist. The motorist must then make an appointment at one of BAR's 36 Consumer Assistance and Referee Centers, where the vehicle will undergo a Smog Check inspection. The vehicle must pass all other aspects the inspection before the Referee can issue a Smog Check certificate. Poor of emissions levels, improperly functioning parts, or missing parts may be taken into consideration during the Smog Check inspection.

If the parts are not available at the time of the vehicle's next Smog Check, the motorist must again obtain a "Limited Parts Exemption", and the vehicle will again need to be inspected at a Referee Center. When required parts become available, they must be installed.

Just bought one on EBay.

Just bought a sol-vac on Ebay for 25.00 plus shipping. Came with the Carburetor too. Didn't need the carburetor, but thats what it was attached too.
Should't have too much of a problem finding a used carburetor on Ebay with the sol-vac setup
