Removing Renegade Decals
I am currently restoring a 1981 CJ7 Renegade. It has the original paint with the decals. I am having a hard time getting the decals off. What is the easiest way to get them off? I have tried paint remover and sandpaper. Is there any other way? Any help would be appreciated.

heat gun? What I ended up doing to remove the ones on my jeep was to get a exacto knife set and use the wide blade it's about a 1/2 wide. you can get under the decal just above the paint just go slow. once you start you will know what I mean. You get pretty good at it after a while. then all thats left is a small layer of glue. I used an orbital sander to remove the glus. I take it you are going to repaint? hope this helped.

Use one of these. It's what they're made for. I used it on my restoration and couldn't believe how well it worked. It removed the decal and glue, and didn't harm the paint at all.
Do a Google search for Astro Pneumatic Eraser Pad. ![]() |

ELMER is right on
we have to remove our old fleet decals everytime we surplus a rig- it is all but impossible, unless you use a decal eraser. they also sell them in thin type pads, which you use in multiples in a die grinder or air-drill. Hoss
