yes, it just has to honk when you press a button, does not matter where it's mounted.

It just has to be in a "convenient" location for the driver to push in an emergency. Mine was not working when I got my jeep.

I had to buy parts 6,7 and 8 of the following diagram.

They are still available at the dealer.

Retainer - J318 7257 $2.85
Horn Contact Pin - 52004403 (Old J318 7249) $2.60
