Rebulit 401, T-18 & Dana 20 Xfr Case

I just ordered a Performance AMC 401 engine from CMEngines to replace to old 304 and am preparing to ship out my T-18 & Dana Xfer Case to Novak for rebuild also.......

Novak Offers a twin stick option for the Dana.........I don't know much about this mod so any insight would be great...

Also what other considerations should I be attending to while these parts are out?(clutch and what not) I wanna get as much done as possible to have her on the road again in spring......

Thanks for the insight .....

I do believe that there is a art to engine building but to ship your T18/Dana20 combo to Novak seems foolish. Not that Novak isn't good at rebuilding, they are a very reputable company. It's just that the T18/Dana20 by a local guy for what you might pay in shipping or less. Just trying to save you a buck.

Damn, For $3,500 - $4,000 I'd opt for an all aluminum ls with choice of trans plus adapter for near that price.
But non the less, I'm interested in what you got

Ratty ...... I've asked several shops around here and I can't get a firm quote ..... Yeah no quote at least at Novak price is firm. 1300 shipping and rebuild for both..... What do you think? Thanks for the reply!

Hey guys here's a link .."Performance Street Engine" section.(http://www.cmengines.com/Engines/Per...3/Default.aspx) . You'll notice they don't have any 401's listed....... I'm gonna be the special "test" person for the 401 ..... There taking my 304 core (free shipping for military) and putting on all my external transferable goodies on it ... Making the oiling mods and then they will Dyno for I think 20 hours and send specs with motor ...... I searched and debated for over a year and I sent them three quotes from other reputable AMC builders .....priced 5200-6800...... They said they could do same for $4500..... So here I am .....

I think $1300 is a bit steep for a rebuild. I only paid $600 shipped for my completely rebuilt T18 and $550 shipped for my rare 1980 scout dana 300. you should be able to get your T18 rebuilt for $500 or less and I would not pay more than a couple hundred to rebuild a dana20. They are plentiful and you can pick up a good one for ~$150 or so.

that is a fine looking engine you have. Why are you having them transfer all of your parts? is it so they can run it on the dyno?

Like RattyFlatty said, save yourself a buck. The Dana 20 is a super easy rubuild and do the twin stick at the same time. Here are a few links to rebuilds, if it looks out of your whelm, send it in. The twin stick kits usually come with good instructions for and easy disaassembly. Parts mike and Novak are good sources for parts and rebuild kit.

For 4,500.00 the engine should not have a used part on it!
