Rebuild Issues

I'm trying to strip the motor of my 84 CJ7 so there's as little electrical stuff as possible. Can i take a distributor off a 72 CJ6 4.2L and use is in my 84 CJ7 4.2L? I really just want to switch it to points and a manual carb.

It should fit but you will find why points are a really poor alternative to electronic. A DUI or similiar would be a cleaner and better install as this will do away with the coil as well.
